New, blue 35-gallon recycle containers have been delivered to each home in The Springs. Recycles will be picked up on Saturdays only.
These recycle containers are only to be used for newspaper (no inserts), aluminum and bi-metal cans, clear or cloudy plastics, cardboard and cereal boxes. No glass (bottles, light bulbs or broken glass) will be accepted. Glass items should go into regular trash.
New 95-gallon trash containers are scheduled to be delivered this coming week (Nov 15 - 20). Trash pickup will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
These 95-gallon trash containers are to be used for all other trash, to include garbage, yard waste, glass, wood, other metal, etc. If you do not have room in your container, you can put additional trash in bags or tied bundles.
These new containers are intended to eliminate the need for the driver to lift the containers; and, could eventually eliminate the need for the driver to exit the truck. This pickup system requires placing containers at the curb with the lift bar facing the street side (wheels toward the curb). If you have extra bags or bundles of trash, the driver will exit the truck to load them by hand.
If you are committed to recycling paper (e.g., newspaper inserts, magazines, catalogs, mail), you can take these items to the recycle dumpsters located in the Canyon Ridge Elementary School parking lot; however, they do not accept cardboard.
Plastic bags can be taken to recycling barrels located at every HEB
Alkaline, NiCad, cell phone and other batteries can be taken to any Best Buy. Keep in mind that Lithium (used in some alkaline batteries) can be explosive when wet. The cadmium in NiCad batteries is poisonous and will give off a poisonous gas when heated. It these go into a landfill, there could be long term environmental consequences.
Any questions or problems with trash pickup should be addressed to Allied Waste Customer Service at (210) 304-2700
